The Church is Always in Reform
Not that the Church of God is ever wrong, but the people in the Church sometimes are. That is why after God had blessed the children of Israel with a land flowing of milk and honey, they still needed Christ to bring them back to a right relation with God. Things have not changed, we still need Christ today.
When Christ came to reform the Church, he preached a message of power that was exhibited when he changed water into wine, when he raised Lazarus from the dead, and when he fed the five thousand. It was a message hard to hear at the time. For Christ spoke contrary to the times; of love your enemies, do good to them that spite you, to forgive as God has forgiven you, and he spoke against those laws that claimed an eye for an eye, to stone one caught in the act of adultery, and to not pluck corn on the Sabbath.
As in the time of Christ, as in the time of the early reformers, as in the time of women suffrage, as in the time of slavery, the Church continues to need reform. The goal of reform has not changed: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” (Luke 10:27) When the people in the church go astray, when we get so busy doing church work and neglect the work of the church, when we build barriers with the Word of God and not bridges, when we appear pious and are devoid of the Spirit of God, we need reform.
Thanks be to God who never leaves us, but continues to work with us so we can continue to become all that God wants us to be. Our greetings are an accurate reminder of God’s presence: “The Lord be with You!” ”And also with You!”
We still need Christ today!

| REFORMATION SUNDAYOh! What a Sunday! Rev. E. Dean Windhorn, was such a blessing as he portrayed Martin Luther. It was all a sermon, a history lesson, an advertisement for being Lutheran, and an encouragment to trust in God, wrapped up in one.
And we were also blessed to hear Susi Ludwig’s story and to be led by her in the Lord’s Prayer in German, with the help of daughter’s Michelle, Carinna, and Lisi, and Judy Cormack. It was Worship with a German flair.
