Look What God Has Done!!!

Oh! What A Blessing:  As many of you know, I recently was interviewed by the Northern Illinois Synod ELCA, Candidacy Committee, to become a TEEM (Theological Education for Emerging Ministries) candidate which is an alternative program of preparation for ordination in the ELCA.  Below is an excerpt from an email from Pastor Barbara J. Rapp, Assistant to the Bishop for Candidacy.  In this email, I was invited to another panel, a Theological Review Panel (TRP).  Here is the excerpt:

“I truly hope you can make this.  The purpose of the panel is to discuss and determine what you will need to complete to become a pastor in the ELCA    It was determined that since your were already ordained as a Baptist Minister you will come into the Candidacy process as one from “another Christian Tradition”.  You will not be considered a TEEM candidate given the nature of your current ministry with Lord of Love”

Excuse my grammar:  AIN’T  GOD  GOOD ?!?

In effect, this is saying that my ordination in the Baptist church will be recognized in the ELCA!!!  As I have said so many times, “It is not about me, it is about all of us!”  It is about God, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.  What has been happening at Lord of Love is way above what either of us has done.  It is not complete yet.  I have to go to this interview, complete the requirements that the TRP outline, and then complete an approval essay and interview.

As we proclaim: Justification by Grace, through Faith, on account of Christ, let us never forget what God has done and is doing: by Us, through Us, on account of Us.

Nancy PetersonGracism

The Art of Gracism:  From our President Nancy Peterson: Adult Education: 8:45-9:45am:    Gracism – Week 1 Fourteen of us gathered around the table before service to discuss this book and share ideas of inclusion (and exclusion) with each other. We had a lot of fun! “Dotism” is based on the idea that we all think we have red dots on our foreheads, revealing our insecurities for the world to see. Sometimes we overreact to people, when we think they are reacting to our red dots when in fact, most of the time they don’t see the dots at all.    What is your “red dot”? For some of us, it was our feeling stupid, fat, being out of control, too old or having an alcoholic family of origin. Do you see these dots in your Lord of Love family?                                                                                    Then we talked about the red dots we see in others. These are our prejudices in dealing with other people. Some of the red dots of intolerance included: phonies, liars, people who are judgmental, unclean, fundamentalist…even teenagers with baggy pants, tattoos and piercings! The question is: How do we deal with our own insecurities, and the perceived way people react to us, and how do we deal with our own intolerances, especially in a welcoming community?!Gracism is the positive extension of favor on other humans based on color, class, or culture. This led to a discussion of favor vs. favortism. We also talked about 1 Corinthians 12:12-27. This is the passage about the different parts of the body and how we all make up the body of Christ. So what happens to the passage when we look at it through the lens of race, class and culture, and not just Spiritual gifts?    Next up:  How do we give people special honor, special modesty, and refusing to accept special treatment. Should we lift people up, give people cover and defer special treatment for ourselves? If so, when and how?

Nancy has posted a 3-1/2 minute video of David Anderson discussing his book, Gracism, on her facebook profile.  Go to facebook and go to Nancy’s page and find the good introduction to the book.

Five Months of Worship Service

Cross 41 attended Worship this past Sunday:  We celebrated our 5th Month Anniversary of Lord of Love existence.  We had four visitors, one of them commented, ”The Lord led us to this church this morning.”  I pray that all of us will be at a place, where we believe, this is where the Lord wants me!

Prayer of the Day
O Lord God, you teach us that without love, our actions gain nothing.  Pour into our hearts your most excellent gift of love, that, made alive by your Spirit, we may know goodness and peace, through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen!

Sincerely, Rev. Dennis Hill – Lord of Love Lutheran Church
